About the Artist, Laurie Blanz
Over 10 Years of Experience as an Artist
Laurie Blanz is a pet portrait painter, using oil paint, watercolors, and gouache (opaque watercolor). At the age of three, she began drawing, and a couple of years later, recognizing her artistic aptitude, her parents enrolled her in the Bemis Art School for Children in Colorado Springs. There, she explored many different media and was featured in a public television program making potato prints! Laurie has been devoted to art throughout her life, but since bringing her art practice to the front of her life, she's brought joy to herself and others through her artwork.

Years ago while on vacation at Havasu Falls, Arizona, a complete stranger, glancing at some of her drawings, encouraged her to explore the same subjects in the medium of oil paint. After this touching interaction, Laurie moved into oils and has been painting seriously with them since 2013. That conversation, a few advanced oil painting classes, and lots of practice opened up a whole new world of painting for her!

Laurie appreciates the creamy texture, rich color, and ease of blendability of oils, the transparency and free-flow of watercolors, and the highly-pigmented, matte finish of gouache. The variety of paint media she uses allows for an expanded palette of choices for her clients.

Regardless of the medium, Laurie employs the same deep level of care, attention to detail, and excellence to each portrait, and she is honored to be trusted to express the look, personality, and depth of being each client’s pet brings to the process. It is a blend of heart, vision and technique.
